Desert Clean Up 18 – Hosted by Ocotillo Wells SVRA & North County Yamaha – November 3, 2007

Driving out, I was definitely eager to just be away from the usual hustle and bustle. I work at a church, and the past couple weeks had been extremely hectic as we were heavily involved with the San Diego Wildfire recovery efforts. I simply needed to get away for a while. Also, there had been an overwhelming response from members of one of the online forums indicating their interest to help in clean-up efforts, so we were hoping to see a bigger turnout than usual.

There was a decent turnout, but unfortunately, all the hype from the forum was simply a bunch of talk. None of those guys showed up. Thankful to know at least one other soul, I met up with James and we cruised around by ourselves scoping out problem areas and managed to fill up a handful of the extra large orange trash bags that were issued to us within a matter of a few hours. Keep in mind that we were handpicking up small items: wrappers, tissues, cans…not all large items. Just call us the dezert-combers.

Despite the disappointment of people not keeping to their word, James and I had a pretty good time out there this weekend. It was definitely great to be outdoors and to simply lend a helping hand.

Hope to you out there next time,
Ray

HUGE thanks to Camburg for being our primary sponsor and for helping us get so many other sponsors on board. (view sponsors) Thanks to everyone who donated stuff to raffle off. And especially, thanks to the →
