Camburg Cleanup 2006 - Barstow, CA - 12/09/2006 photos by Alan Draper
I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with how today's cleanup event went. It was bigger than I imagined it would be.
HUGE thanks to Camburg for being our primary sponsor and for helping us get so many other sponsors on board. (view sponsors) Thanks to everyone who donated stuff to raffle off. And especially, thanks to the people at Barstow Waste Management that helped us out BIG TIME with the dumpsters.
Quick Recap:
We had a really good turnout. At least 100 people showed up to help.
Started a little late waiting for trashbags. Nevertheless, the volunteers managed to fill up the three 40 cubic yard dumpsters within less then an hour and a half.
On top of that, waste management told us that we couldn't dispose of tires, so we just built a big stack of them and decided we'd figure it out later.
Adam tried to get waste management to pickup the dumpsters and empty them out and bring them back..but no go. So for a while it looked we would have to call it quits by 10:30.
Somehow, we managed to get TWO more dumpsters and we were in business again. One of the volunteers was also able to pull some strings with the city council and worked something out so that we could dispose of the mountain of tires we had built up.
Among the trash that volunteers carried, hauled and even dragged, there were dozens of refrigerators, couches, other appliances, a truck bed, an old mini station wagon, and a torn up vw bug body.
It was really great to see people come out and support the event and help out. I know for a fact that we got the attention of the community because the mayor of Barstow paid us a visit at the end of the day just to see the work we had done and to personally say thank you.
Again, thank you to all our sponsors and our volunteers. We could have never done this without you.
